As Chinese technology behemoths continue to advocate for greater industrial utilization of generative AI, ByteDance, the parent company of TikTok, has unveiled the latest version of its online collaboration tool Feishu, now integrated with artificial intelligence (AI) capabilities to aid Chinese enterprises in automating workplace tasks.

The introduction of Feishu 7 in Beijing on Wednesday signifies a significant step for Chinese enterprises in becoming “AI-ready.” This advancement is made possible through the incorporation of ChatGPT-like features driven by diverse large language models (LLMs).

In a recent announcement, Xie emphasized the transformative impact of AI on work processes and emphasized the imperative for business leaders to ensure their organizations are adept at swiftly adapting to and embracing the rapidly evolving AI landscape.

Meanwhile, Pinduoduo is ramping up its investment in AI talent, evident from its job listings for Bachelor engineers specializing in this field.

LLMs serve as the foundational technology behind innovations like ChatGPT, initially introduced by the Microsoft-backed OpenAI, catalyzing a global AI competition that has captivated numerous Chinese tech firms, each striving to develop their unique AI solutions.

ByteDance is rolling out a new AI assistant named Feishu Intelligent Buddy within its updated workplace tool, designed to enhance productivity and efficiency for users. This virtual assistant boasts capabilities such as analyzing data from PDFs, videos, and audio files, as well as aiding in meeting summaries and message organization. Moreover, it facilitates the creation of various work documents, including surveys, emails, spreadsheets, and mind maps.

Xie highlighted the ease of task delegation to Feishu Buddy, citing an example where a simple request led to the creation of a customized spreadsheet for an “inventory control system.” Furthermore, he underscored the importance of continuously enhancing the AI assistant’s capabilities to handle diverse tasks effectively.

Users can now select their preferred AI model for the Feishu assistant, with support extended to models from Zhipu AI, a government-backed startup founded by Sogou’s creator Wang Xiaochuan, and Tencent’s Fairy MiniMax.

Several Chinese enterprises, such as the beverage startup Yuanqi Senlin and gadget manufacturer Anker Innovations Technology, have already leveraged the capabilities of the intelligent buddy to bolster their sales and marketing strategies, signaling a potential surge in AI adoption among tech giants for their business applications.

Microsoft’s robust promotion of AI in the Asian market, incorporating GPT-powered Navigator systems across various products, further underscores the growing significance of AI integration in the tech landscape.
