According to Mark Gurman from Bloomberg, Apple is set to introduce a range of generative AI-based tools at the upcoming Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) in June. Gurman elaborated on Apple’s plans to unveil new AI-driven tools at WWDC, including an updated version of Siri as part of iOS 18, in his recent “Power On” newsletter.
Recent reports suggest that Apple has been experimenting with its “Ajax” large vocabulary model since early 2023, considering integrating it into core apps like Pages and Keynote. Additionally, there are discussions about incorporating AI for script completion in a new Mac version and leveraging AI in Apple Music for music creation streamlining.
However, Gurman notes that Apple’s complete AI vision may not fully materialize until 2025, indicating that not all planned features will be rolled out this year. He also mentions that competitors like Samsung are poised to divert attention away from Apple in the coming months.
In other news, Apple has raised the APY of the Apple Card savings account to 4.35 percent, following a previous increase from 4.15% to 4.25% in December. This adjustment aligns the Apple Card savings account rate with well-known American Express high-yield savings accounts.
Furthermore, Apple has deviated from its 12-year tradition by releasing few new tablets in 2023, marking the first significant departure from its annual tablet releases since the iPad’s inception in 2010.
Apple has initiated payouts as part of the resolution of a class action lawsuit in the United States related to the “batterygate” controversy, where some iPhone models were allegedly throttled secretly. The company agreed to pay up to $500 million in 2020 to settle the lawsuit.
Looking ahead, there are expectations for new features in iOS 18, including enhancements to Siri and potential RCS support for the Messages app. Additionally, iOS 17.3 is currently in beta testing, with anticipated new features to be introduced in the upcoming software update.
In 2024, Apple is planning to introduce several new features across iPhone 17 and iOS 18, such as Stolen Device Protection, innovative Apple Music features, AirPlay for hotel room TVs, app tracking transparency in the EU, next-generation CarPlay, and satellite-based roadside assistance.
According to Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, the iPhone 17 lineup will feature a 24MP front-facing camera, a significant upgrade from previous models. This enhancement is expected to bring advanced camera capabilities to the upcoming iPhone models.
