You might be interested in the emerging capabilities of Artificial Devices as they enter the spotlight. Audacity has promptly joined the fray by introducing its on-chip sound AI tools customized for music composition, transcription, and more.
In a move to showcase the newly revealed tools, Intel partnered with Audacity to demonstrate the Meteor Lake (now known as Main Ultra) architectures in Malaysia. These devices harness OpenVINO, an Intel-developed kit optimized for performance. However, it’s worth noting that OpenVINO is currently tailored for Arm and Intel’s 11th-generation Core processors, excluding AMD and its Ryzen AI.
The latest AI functionalities from Audacity include:
- Noise elimination, effectively reducing background noise from conversations and music
- Sequencing with Whisper.party, capable of separating words into a primary track and an external file
- Music generation, involving the creation of music from scratch or based on existing tracks with consistent diffusion and reverberation
- Music separation, allowing the isolation of individual instruments in a song, including vocals (ideal for karaoke enthusiasts)!
Regarding the user interface, while the initial transcription capabilities may not match platforms like Otter.ai, they are still valuable and allow for exporting transcriptions to an external file.
One challenge faced is the CPU limitations of these new AI tools, requiring the installation of Audacity 3.4.2 for optimal functionality. Audacity has provided clear installation instructions for the new tools.
To make the most of these tools, download Audacity 3.4.2 and the following two files from the assembly page: Aladdicity OpenVINO-Module-3.4.2 R1.openvino and flap-designs.flap. Note that the AI models are large, with the models file weighing 1.92GB. After transferring the files to Audacity’s installation directory, launch the software, go to Edit>Preferences, and enable mod-openvino. Finally, restart Audacity to apply the changes.
