### Seeking Love in the Bay Area: Exploring Traditional and Modern Methods on Valentine’s Day

Love is in the air across the Bay Area on Valentine’s Day, in all different forms. From speed…

SANTA CLARA, Calif. (KGO) – Valentine’s Day provides the perfect opportunity for strangers to engage in face-to-face interactions through speed dating events.

The event, hosted by ‘SF Quick Dates,’ took place on Wednesday evening at the Avatar Hotel in Santa Clara, attracting participants like Felipe Silva from Cupertino. Silva, who was attending his first outing post-breakup, expressed both excitement and nervousness about the experience.

For Silva, the appeal of speed dating lies in its conducive environment for genuine conversations, free from the distractions of loud music typically found in clubs or bars. Similarly, Yijun Liu, a resident of Los Gatos, shared her perspective as a first-time speed dater, highlighting her journey of personal growth and readiness for new relationships after a hiatus from dating.

The event featured rounds of 5-minute dates for approximately 12 men and 12 women, emphasizing the importance of in-person interactions over digital connections. Despite the prevalence of dating websites and apps, Artificial Intelligence (AI) is now revolutionizing the matchmaking landscape, as evidenced by the innovative approach of the app Volar Dating.

Ben Chiang, a key figure in the development of Volar Dating, drew inspiration from his own successful relationship that originated on a dating app. The app’s unique feature involves a simulated Chatbot that initiates conversations between users, aiming to alleviate the initial awkwardness of starting a dialogue with a stranger.

By leveraging AI technology, Volar Dating aims to facilitate meaningful connections by providing users with tailored conversation starters and prompts. Chiang emphasized the distinction between AI-generated interactions and genuine human connections, underscoring the app’s role in fostering authentic relationships.

Although Volar Dating, derived from the Spanish word for “to fly,” is still in its nascent stages, early feedback indicates promising interactions and meetups among users. Chiang expressed eagerness to hear success stories from users and reiterated the app’s mission to complement, rather than replace, traditional avenues of building human connections.
