### Leveraging Artificial Intelligence to Uncover Firearms Presence at the Congressional Assembly

Michigan officials have a new eye watching visitors to the state Capitol. This one is artificial in…

Michigan authorities are increasing surveillance of visitors to the state capital with the implementation of advanced technology. The newly introduced artificial intelligence system, named “Zero-Eyes,” is designed to detect weapons within the Capitol premises swiftly.

Sam Alaimo, one of the co-founders of Zero-Eyes, expressed appreciation for Michigan’s positive response to this innovative security measure, referring to the state as early adopters of firearm detection technology.

Alaimo highlighted that the AI program is specifically calibrated to identify firearms and promptly alert security personnel. It provides detailed information such as the type of weapon, its precise location, and a description of the individual in possession of it.

The response time from the moment a weapon is detected on camera to the security notification being issued is remarkably quick, ranging between three to five seconds, as explained by Alaimo. Subsequently, law enforcement assesses any potential risks associated with the identified individual and weapon.

Moreover, the Michigan Capitol building, along with Oxford High School and several other educational institutions in the state, has already integrated this cutting-edge system for enhanced security measures.

In addition to the AI implementation, the State Capitol Commission has enforced stricter regulations to curb the presence of firearms within the premises. Measures include the installation of metal detectors and a prohibition on carrying both visible and concealed weapons inside the building, with initial steps initiated in August.

William Kandler, the head of the Michigan State Capitol Commission, emphasized the importance of ensuring a safe environment for visitors, employees, and legislators within the facility. The commission’s objective is to mitigate potential security threats that could jeopardize the well-being of individuals within the building.

Kandler mentioned that unlike visible metal detectors, the AI security system operates discreetly to maintain a seamless visitor experience without compromising safety measures.

Alaimo echoed these sentiments by emphasizing the covert nature of the security measures, likening it to the presence of bulletproof glass that remains unnoticed yet provides essential protection. The focus remains on monitoring for potential threats while integrating seamlessly with existing security infrastructure.
