### Chat with Your PDFs Using Adobe’s Latest AI Assistant

Your PDFs are about to get a whole lot smarter.

Whether you’re faced with a contract awaiting your signature, perusing a receipt, or delving into a report, the majority of the electronic documents you encounter daily come in PDF format. To enhance your interaction with PDFs, Adobe has introduced a cutting-edge AI Assistant.

On Tuesday, Adobe revealed the beta launch of its new AI Assistant in Acrobat and Reader, featuring an AI-driven conversational engine capable of addressing user queries regarding a document, generating summaries, and more.

Getting started is a breeze. Simply open Acrobat or Reader, where users will discover the AI Assistant beta, enabling them to perform various tasks, including responding to suggested or user-generated questions through a chatbot interface.

Beyond inquiring about document content, users can request the AI Assistant to produce text based on the material. For instance, users can solicit an email summarizing the document’s key findings, which can then be easily copied and pasted elsewhere using a “copy” function.

The responses provided by the engine incorporate intelligent citations, indicating the pages in the document from which the answers are derived. By clicking on a citation, users are not only directed to the relevant page but also shown a highlighted excerpt containing the answers.

Moreover, the AI Assistant can generate concise summaries regardless of the document’s length, offering users a quick overview of the content before delving into it.

Abhigyan Modi, Adobe’s SVP of Document Cloud, emphasized the potential of generative AI in enhancing document experiences, transforming information overload into actionable insights and polished content.

In addressing privacy concerns related to potentially sensitive document imports, Adobe has implemented stringent data security measures for the AI Assistant feature. Customer document content is neither stored nor utilized for further training of the technology.

The beta version of AI Assistant in Acrobat is accessible at no extra cost for subscribers of Acrobat Standard and Pro Individual and Teams plans on desktop. The rollout of AI Assistant in Reader for desktop users in English is slated for the upcoming weeks, also at no additional charge, a noteworthy aspect given Reader’s free availability.

While existing PDF chatbots like ChatPDF already exist in the market, Adobe’s PDF chatbot stands out due to its seamless integration of the conversational engine into Reader and Acrobat, the industry-standard PDF viewing platforms. Stay tuned for our forthcoming hands-on review, where we’ll provide our initial insights on this innovative tool.
