Editor’s Note: Rajeev Kapur serves as the chief executive of 1105 Media Inc., a B2B marketing provider based in Irvine with a workforce exceeding 100 employees. The following excerpts are derived from his latest publication, “AI Made Simple: A Beginner’s Guide to Generative Intelligence,” currently holding top positions on Amazon’s rankings: No. 1 in Artificial Intelligence Expert Systems, No. 2 in Computers & Technology Teaching & Reference, and No. 9 in Business Technology Innovation. The annual rundown of the largest chipmakers in Orange County by The Business Journal commences on page 16.
Generative AI signifies more than just a passing trend; it marks the inception of a significant revolution.
In December 2022, OpenAI introduced ChatGPT, a novel chatbot leveraging the advanced GPT-3 language model. Within the initial five days of its launch, ChatGPT garnered over 1 million sign-ups—achieving this milestone 250 times faster than Netflix. By January 2023, its user base had surged to 100 million, establishing it as the fastest-growing consumer application in history.
By 2025, approximately 10% of the global data output will stem from Generative AI.
Nevertheless, challenges persist. The foundation of GPT-3’s dataset primarily draws from the internet, a realm known to propagate misinformation or subjective views as facts.
Instances of misuse have surfaced. In a weekend episode in May 2023, a purported new track titled “Heart on My Sleeve,” supposedly a collaboration between renowned rapper Drake and vocalist The Weeknd, surfaced on TikTok via a freshly minted account.
This track swiftly went viral, amassing millions of views and swiftly appearing on popular streaming platforms like Spotify and Apple Music. The individual behind the song on TikTok began offering downloads in exchange for users’ phone numbers through a provided link.
This link redirected users to a mass texting marketing company! The entire song, as it turned out, was a product of Generative AI, promptly removed from all streaming services.
An advertising agency now exists that crafts advertisements almost entirely devoid of human involvement, courtesy of Generative AI. Adthos, a startup, has introduced an innovative business model centered on a platform utilizing Generative AI to not only formulate scripts for audio ads but also produce these ads for utilization in podcasts, radio, and similar audio-exclusive mediums, offering a plethora of music, sound effects, and a vast array of simulated voices from numerous recognizable voice actors under contract for this specific purpose.

Copilot
Microsoft, holding a 49% stake in ChatGPT, is rolling out several business-oriented applications.
Copilot integrates into Microsoft 365 in two primary ways, enhancing creativity, productivity, and skill development across various Microsoft applications. Business Chat, a new feature, leverages Microsoft 365 data to provide unprecedented functionalities, offering insights and content creation based on natural language prompts.
Initial data indicates that developers utilizing Copilot experience enhanced productivity (88%), reduced time spent on information retrieval (77%), and can focus on more fulfilling tasks (74%).
With Copilot integrated into PowerPoint, users can transform concepts into compelling presentations, either by converting existing documents into slides with speaker notes and references or by initiating new presentations from basic prompts or outlines.
Microsoft’s Designer leverages Generative AI to create graphics for social media posts, invitations, posters, and more, using cutting-edge technology.
CarMax, the national used car retailer, utilizes Microsoft’s Azure OpenAI to generate summaries for 5,000 car reviews within a few months, a task that would have taken over a decade manually. Microsoft Viva Sales merges customer relationship management data with Microsoft 365 data to offer real-time insights and automated content creation.
A notable recent addition is OpenAI’s GPT Store, akin to an app store, where corporations can upload and explore trending GPTs across categories like research, education, and lifestyle.
