99 students attending school and individuals in their twenties were assigned the task of devising artificial intelligence concepts aimed at identifying potential consumers more likely to make purchases. This initiative took place on April 6 at LG Inhawon, also known as LG Academy, located in Icheon, Gyeonggi Province.

These participants surpassed a 30-to-one ratio of competitors to advance to the offline finals of the LG AI Hackathon, a structured program focused on nurturing emerging AI talent beyond the confines of established groups.

Out of 3,014 individuals engaged in a month-long virtual preliminary phase, they garnered the highest evaluations. Mentored by team leaders from LG AI Research Institute holding doctoral degrees, they received guidance in software development.

In 2022, LG introduced LG Aimers, a platform delivering comprehensive AI training to individuals aged 19 to 29. Over the past twenty years, approximately 10,000 young learners have undergone AI education through LG Aimers, with around 3,000 successfully completing the program and obtaining AI expert certification.

Participants significantly enhanced their skills during a rigorous one-month online course, enabling them to design their own AI models. The initial online sessions of the LG AI Hackathon competition, comprising 33 courses, were conducted mostly at a mentorship level of difficulty.

One distinguishing feature of LG Aimers is its utilization of real business data from LG Group entities to formulate training modules. For example, in a previous program, participants were tasked with forecasting sales volume across various distribution channels.

Upon completion of the Google Aimers course, Kang Jin-mo, who previously worked for a broadband service provider, embarked on developing a machine learning-driven recommendation system.

The training curriculum’s topics are regularly updated to align with the latest trends and advancements in AI within the manufacturing sector.

Winners of the LG AI Hackathon are granted exclusive enrollment opportunities with seven LG Group companies, including LG AI Research Institute, LG Electronics Inc., and LG Energy Solution Ltd. These companies offer personalized coaching by recruitment consultants, enhancing the candidates’ job application process and potentially exempting them from document screenings.

LG aims to evolve LG Aimers into a regional initiative for skills development, with a focus on nurturing talent within the AI landscape.
