While artificial intelligence has been leveraged to update outdated information to meet current standards, its impact on the television industry has been relatively minimal. However, this scenario is poised to change as LG recently unveiled its latest Monitors featuring an AI-powered computer for a significant enhancement in quality.
Initially, LG will utilize the G4 and M4 components of its new Alpha 11 computer.
Furthermore, the top televisions from leading brands such as Samsung, LG, Sony, and TCL are also being compared for performance and features.
As per a press release, the new processor boasts “4-fold higher AI performance,” resulting in a “70% improvement in graphic performance and 3% faster processing speed.”
In practical terms, this advancement translates to enhancing backgrounds through what LG describes as “precise sensor-level analysis.” By employing AI, the computer can analyze frequently used shades and adjust colors to align with the intended emotions and creative elements envisioned by content creators.
In essence, this means that your TV can interpret the artistic intentions of the show or movie’s creators and optimize the display accordingly.
Another innovative technique the processor can utilize is Dynamic Tone Mapping, which refines contrast by identifying how light interacts within a scene, creating an almost 3D-like visual effect.
It is worth noting that while purists have the option to disable the new AI functionalities, they are likely to be activated by default.
The predecessor of the G4, the G3, was already acclaimed for delivering exceptional image quality and overcoming challenges related to displaying vibrant colors in well-lit rooms, particularly with OLED displays. Therefore, if the new computer from LG lives up to expectations, the G4 is poised to reclaim the top position in terms of display quality.
LG has also announced that AI assistance will extend to the audio domain. Through AI Sound Pro, users can expect a more immersive audio experience without the need for additional sound bars. This feature utilizes digital 11.1.2 surround sound to separate dialogue from the rest of the soundtrack, enhancing the richness and depth of the audio.
Additionally, a notable contrast in this year’s lineup is the introduction of a smaller model. While the LG M3 from the previous year focused on wireless connectivity with the Zero Connect Box and eliminated traditional wire connections, it was only available in larger sizes such as 77, 83, and 97 inches. In contrast, the M4 model is expanding its offerings with a 65-inch screen, making the sophisticated wire-free systems accessible to a broader audience.
Both the LG G4 and LG M4 are set to be showcased at the upcoming CES event next week.
