If your residence is integrated with Samsung products, Samsung aims to enhance the intelligence of smart homes even further.

During the CES 2024 presentation in Las Vegas, Samsung introduced several upgrades and features for its SmartThings home automation system. Among these is the introduction of a new dashboard screen called Then Plus on Samsung TVs, designed to showcase details about smart home devices and real-time indoor temperature. This screen is set to activate upon your approach and is accompanied by a new “quick board” providing convenient shortcuts for managing connected devices, including options like locating misplaced smartphones and other wireless gadgets.

In a move reminiscent of Amazon’s recent Map View feature, Samsung also unveiled a “map view” for SmartThings. This innovative feature presents an interactive map of your home, pinpointing the positions of various smart appliances such as refrigerators and washing machines. These maps can be created manually or automatically by utilizing an existing floor plan image or with the assistance of Samsung devices equipped with laser capabilities like the upcoming Ballie machine or the newly launched JetBot robot vacuum.

The latest SmartThings maps incorporate “AI figures” representing household members and pets, adding a charming (or perhaps eerie) touch to the experience. These animated avatars react to real-time conditions, such as displaying signs of sweating if the indoor temperature rises significantly.

To generate these charts, the SmartThings application must initially be accessed via a smartphone or tablet. Once created, these visual representations can be viewed on supported Samsung TVs, Samsung M8 screens, and the Samsung Family Hub smart fridge display.
