The promotional image for the Humane AI Pin may be visually striking, but some viewers have raised concerns about the accuracy of its information.
In a promotional video featuring the founders of Humane, the AI Pin inadvertently provided incorrect data. It inaccurately described an upcoming SDK and the amino content of a handful of almonds. A Humane representative mentioned in the company’s Discord channel that an updated promotional video would be released soon.
Errors can occur even with advanced AI technology. Upon noticing discrepancies in the launch video, Humane has decided to create a new promotional video for the AI Pin. The AI device mistakenly provided wrong information about the optimal location to view a forthcoming solar eclipse and the protein content of almonds. (As of the time of this article’s publication, these moments can still be observed in the old video pinned on Humane’s website and X page.)
The Humane AI Pin is a compact standalone device that can be attached to a case, pocket, or clothing without a conventional display. It is equipped with a camera, microphone, speaker, and a small laser projector for hands-on interaction. This AI-centric gadget can capture media, play music, make calls, and respond to inquiries.
During the video, Imran Chaudhri, a director at Humane, asked the AI Pin about the next solar eclipse location. The device inaccurately indicated that Australia would be the best place to witness the eclipse in April 2024, whereas parts of North America will have visibility of the event, not Australia.
Chaudhri also inquired about the protein content of pistachios, to which the AI Pin erroneously stated that a handful contained 15 grams of protein. However, it was pointed out that achieving 15 grams of protein would require consuming 60 almonds, not a mere handful. (The USDA estimates that one almond contains approximately 0.25 grams of protein.)
These inaccuracies were acknowledged and addressed by Sam Sheffer, Humane’s head of innovative marketing, on the company’s Discord platform. Sheffer explained that a technical glitch caused the AI Pin to reference an outdated solar eclipse location and mistakenly suggested that pistachios contained more protein than they actually do.
Sheffer assured that these issues would be rectified before the AI Pin’s anticipated release in early 2024, with a price tag of $699.
Humane clarified that the discrepancies in the promotional image were due to pre-release technology and do not reflect the device’s expected performance upon its official launch in 2024. Sheffer confirmed that the issues with the promotional image had been addressed and a new video would be uploaded soon, although the exact timing of the reposting remains uncertain.
When approached for comment, Humane did not respond immediately to Insider’s inquiry.
