### Hollywood’s AI Regulations Criticized by Elvis Director

“Elvis” director Baz Luhrmann warns that Hollywood is “way behind” when it …

Director Baz Luhrmann, known for his work on “Elvis,” expressed more concern about the lack of oversight in technology than about artificial intelligence. In an interview with Sky News, Luhrmann shared that he wasn’t personally fearful of AI. However, after collaborating with the sophisticated robot Ai-Da and forming connections with her, he acknowledged that there is a significant gap in managing artificial intelligence.

Luhrmann collaborated with Bombay Sapphire on the “Saw This Made This” campaign, where Ai-Da, an AI robot artist, created artwork live at events in London and New York based on input from human creators.

Furthermore, Luhrmann commended the writers’ and actors’ strikes that occurred during the summer and fall, highlighting the role of AI in the negotiations.

Baz Luhrmann emphasized the importance of proper governance and understanding of AI, stating that there is a need for advancement in all areas concerning AI management. He also mentioned the potential benefits of AI in his creative journey, noting that AI lacks the ability to be imperfect, a crucial element in artistry.

In a separate event, Austin Butler accompanied Baz Luhrmann to the Critics Choice Awards following Lisa Marie Presley’s passing.

During discussions with Forbes in May, Luhrmann shared his perspective on AI, mentioning its efficiency in organizing tasks but underscoring that true creativity and the human touch are irreplaceable. He cautioned against expecting AI to produce entirely original and human creations, emphasizing the importance of governance and the need for contemplation on AI-related modifications.

Regarding the use of AI in Hollywood, Luhrmann noted that AI systems are essentially replicas and not capable of true creativity. Following the conclusion of the Writers Guild of America (WGA) strike, regulations were established concerning the utilization of AI-generated content, ensuring that it does not infringe on writers’ rights or credits.

Negotiations between writers’ and actors’ guilds this year were marked by tensions surrounding AI. The updated contract stipulated restrictions on the mandatory use of AI software by writers and the necessity for explicit consent from actors before creating digital replicas for projects.
