The collaboration between SAG-AFTRA and the AMPTP, scheduled until June 30, 2026, commenced on November 9, coinciding with the conclusion of the group’s strike. The agreement encompasses provisions concerning artificial intelligence safeguards, revised earnings frameworks, and more.
A prominent feature of this new contract is the inclusion of safeguards pertaining to AI. Under this provision, performers whose modern replicas are utilized are entitled to compensation based on the “performer’s pro rata daily level or the lowest price, whichever is higher,” along with remuneration for the number of days the developer deems necessary for the performer if the scenes were filmed in person. The producer is obligated to make a “good faith effort” to estimate this duration as outlined in the contract.
Furthermore, residual compensation is extended to encompass the enhanced payment structure related to AI. Performers falling under the category of employment-based online replication will continue to receive residual compensation, regardless of whether their performance was in person or through their digital replica in future projects.
Notably, background actors will receive increased compensation under this revised agreement. The time spent creating a modern replica is now considered compensable work. Background artists will now receive compensation equivalent to a full day’s pay even if they are summoned solely for replication purposes. Similarly, comedians portraying a duplicate character will be compensated akin to a principal performer.

The preliminary agreement received an 86% endorsement from the national board of SAG- AFTRA on Friday. The ratification voting process is scheduled to commence this Tuesday and will extend through the initial week of December. Apart from the AI-related provisions, this revised contract incorporates higher minimum wage increments compared to those secured by the DGA or WGA. Additionally, it introduces a revenue-sharing mechanism based on streaming royalties overseen by representatives from both SAG-AFTRA and AMPTP studios.
Expressing gratitude for the unwavering support from entertainment entities during the strike period, SAG-AFTRA President Duncan Crabtree-Ireland remarked during a press briefing on Friday that “this achievement is a collective victory.” These advancements underscore the outcomes achievable through collaborative efforts and solidarity, sustaining the viability of the entertainment industry for working-class performers.
