Sports Illustrated’s animal writers are expressing dismay over allegations that their middle management has published AI-generated articles on their platform. They are now seeking clarification.
A debunking statement by Surrealism on Monday alleged that SI has been utilizing AI to create fictitious authors and content for many years. The report suggests that Sports Illustrated uses images from a website that generates AI-created headshots for fake author profiles and attributes stories to them. Additionally, it was claimed that at times, the narratives themselves were also AI-generated.
The SI Union, comprised of the company’s writers, issued a strong statement on Monday evening, expressing their shock at the allegations and urging prompt action from their parent company, The Arena Group, if these claims are verified.
In their statement, the SI Union demanded transparency and accountability from Arena Group management regarding the content published under the Sports Illustrated brand. They insisted that the company adhere to basic literary standards, including refraining from disseminating computer-generated false information.
The Union also expressed their disapproval of being associated with such deceptive practices, emphasizing their commitment to maintaining the highest ethical standards over the years.
Responding to the allegations made by Futurism, the SI Union reiterated their dedication to upholding ethical standards and emphasized their ongoing efforts to uphold the integrity of Sports Illustrated. They look forward to seeing appropriate actions taken by management.
Despite Futurism’s claims that The Arena Group did not respond to inquiries regarding the alleged misinformation, they noted that all AI-generated profiles associated with Sports Illustrated mysteriously disappeared from the site after contact was made.
