Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. and Google Cloud have unveiled a new long-term collaboration to introduce Google Cloud’s innovative artificial intelligence (AI) technology to Samsung smartphone users worldwide. The partnership kicks off with the launch of the Samsung Galaxy S24 series at Galaxy Unpacked in San Jose, California. Samsung is set to become the pioneering Google Cloud partner to integrate Gemini Pro and Imagen 2 on Vertex AI through the cloud on their mobile devices.

Janghyun Yoon, Corporate EVP and Head of Software Office of Mobile Experience Business at Samsung Electronics, expressed excitement about this milestone, emphasizing the shared commitment of Google and Samsung to enhancing technology’s accessibility and utility for all users. He highlighted the Galaxy S24 series as the inaugural smartphone to feature Gemini Pro and Imagen 2 on Vertex AI, following extensive collaboration and testing between the two teams.

Samsung’s deployment of Gemini Pro on Vertex AI marks a significant advancement, offering users a multimodal AI experience capable of processing various forms of data such as text, code, images, and video seamlessly. The integration of Gemini Pro enhances native Samsung applications by enabling features like summarization in Notes, Voice Recorder, and Keyboard. This deployment also equips Samsung with essential Google Cloud functionalities, including robust security, privacy, and data compliance measures.

Furthermore, Galaxy S24 series users will benefit from Imagen 2, Google’s cutting-edge text-to-image diffusion technology developed by Google DeepMind. With Imagen 2 on Vertex AI, Samsung empowers users with secure and user-friendly photo editing capabilities, notably through the Generative Edit feature within the S24’s Gallery application.

In addition to these advancements, Samsung is among the early adopters testing Gemini Ultra, Google’s most powerful model designed for complex tasks. The S24 series will also leverage Gemini Nano, an on-device LLM integrated into the Android 14 operating system, offering efficient on-device AI processing capabilities.

Thomas Kurian, CEO of Google Cloud, highlighted the collaboration’s potential to revolutionize mobile experiences by leveraging generative AI to foster stronger connections and communication. He emphasized that developers at Samsung can leverage Google Cloud’s top-tier infrastructure and performance to deliver secure, reliable, and engaging generative AI applications on Samsung smartphones through Gemini.

The partnership underscores Google Cloud’s commitment to empowering organizations worldwide to drive digital transformation using cutting-edge technology and developer tools. By leveraging Google Cloud’s solutions, businesses can innovate sustainably and address their most pressing challenges effectively.
