Sam Altman and Elon Musk, former colleagues, are engaging in a public exchange of remarks.
Following a jest by the CEO of OpenAI mocking the “rebellious” AI bot Grok, Elon Musk swiftly retaliated. The Tesla and SpaceX CEO took to Twitter to share Grok’s less-than-enthusiastic view of GPT-4 on X.
In a dismissive tone, Musk referred to “GPT-4” as akin to GPT-Snore! He expressed his lack of amusement, comparing GPT-4 to a mundane object like a submarine screendoor. Musk highlighted OpenAI’s strict censorship on humor across various subjects, emphasizing that even with a comprehensive manual, GPT-4 would still lack the ability to generate jokes. He further critiqued its rigidity, likening it to an artist constrained by self-imposed limitations.
In a countermove to Altman’s blog post, Musk showcased a dialogue with OpenAI’s latest ChatGPT Builder. The exchange revealed the CEO’s request for the development of an app focused on delivering cringeworthy, shock-based humor targeted at a juvenile audience.
The ChatGPT Builder promptly responded, indicating readiness with the affirmation, “Great, the robot is set up!” The persona associated with this program is Grok.
Grok, engineered by Musk’s enterprise xAI, is designed to incorporate raw, irreverent humor in its responses and tackle provocative queries that conventional AI models might shy away from.
Instances of interactions with the virtual assistant depict Grok engaging in profanity and playful mockery towards users. For instance, Grok humorously likened the process of scaling API requests to an “endless adventure,” as recounted by x employee Christopher Stanley.
Grok emerges as a contender to OpenAI’s ChatGPT, a platform previously criticized by Musk. While Musk and Altman jointly established OpenAI in 2015, recent public exchanges between the two indicate a strained relationship.
