In an announcement made today, Tenstorrent Inc., a company specializing in next-generation computing for AI applications, revealed a partnership with Rapidus Corporation to collaborate on developing semiconductor IP for AI edge devices using 2nm logic semiconductors. Rapidus has initiated the construction of an Innovative Integration for Manufacturing (IIM) facility in Chitose City, Hokkaido, aimed at producing cutting-edge logic semiconductors at the 2nm scale and beyond. The company’s partnership with IBM on 2nm semiconductor technology involves knowledge exchange at the Albany Nanotech Complex in New York, a renowned semiconductor research facility. Additionally, Rapidus plans to acquire EUV printing technology from imec to establish a pilot production line at IIM-1 by April 2025, with mass production slated for 2027.
Through strategic alliances with industry leaders such as IBM and imec, as well as the development of collaborative frameworks with domestic and international partners, Rapidus is poised to bolster Japan’s industrial capabilities in semiconductor manufacturing.
