An AI-powered enhancement on eBay has been developed to assist fashion consumers in “shopping the look.”

As per a Tuesday (April 9) blog post by the company, this feature leverages shoppers’ purchase history to display clothing and outfits that align with their style preferences and are offered by sellers on the platform.

In the post, Raul Romero, an item manager at eBay, mentioned, “We crafted the shop the look feature to adjust to our customers’ preferences.” The design suggestions consist of personalized images and products, ensuring a tailored clothing shopping experience.

Romero further added, “Through this feature, we provide a shopping experience that not only recognizes our customers’ choices but also evolves with them over time.”

The blog highlighted that the “shop the look” functionality is currently accessible on iPhones for eBay customers in the United States and the United Kingdom, with potential future inclusion on Android devices.

Although the feature currently focuses on clothing, the company is contemplating extending it to other product categories, as stated in the article.

According to the post, customers who have viewed a minimum of 10 fashion items in the past 180 days will have access to the “Shop the Look” option, which may appear on both the eBay homepage and the style landing page for these shoppers.

“Shop the look is just one of the ways we are enhancing the customer experience for fashion enthusiasts,” Romero emphasized in the blog post, highlighting how it offers customers insights into how potential additions might complement their existing wardrobe.

Research from PYMNTS Intelligence reveals that 44% of users are somewhat interested in integrating AI technologies into their shopping journeys, with a higher percentage among younger demographics. Specifically, 69% of Gen Z consumers and 54% of millennials and bridge millennials express interest in such advancements, according to “AI-Enabled Payments Enhance Customer Options,” a collaborative report by PYMNTS Intelligence and ACI Worldwide.

In a separate development, Etsy announced in January the launch of a platform utilizing AI and curated collections to aid customers in finding gifts for various occasions, showcasing another innovative application of this technology.

The Gift Mode feature allows customers to input details about the recipient and receive product recommendations from Etsy sellers curated by the platform’s machine learning technology.
