Ola’s Chief Executive Officer, Bhavish Aggarwal, utilized X, previously known as Twitter, to disclose the company’s latest endeavor in developing a new AI project. The ride-hailing service provider and electric scooter manufacturer is venturing into the realm of AI Chat applications, aiming to compete with industry giants like OpenAI and Google. Aggarwal unveiled ‘Krutrim’, a venture established earlier this year under the name Krutrim SI Designs. Engaging with his followers on X, Aggarwal sought input on the desired features for an AI chat app, particularly catering to Indian users.

Aggarwal pledged to incorporate the most intriguing suggestions into the company’s product roadmap. To encourage more innovative ideas, he announced a reward of a complimentary Ola S1X+ scooter for the best proposal.

In a separate tweet, Aggarwal expressed, “The rapid advancement of AI is set to enhance human productivity, expedite scientific breakthroughs, and drive progress. This evolution allows humans to break free from tasks that can be automated, paving the way for broader horizons in knowledge and creativity. With India’s distinct cultural inclination towards exploration and technological growth, the nation has the potential to lead the global AI landscape into the future!”

This announcement follows Aggarwal’s dialogue with spiritual leader Sadhguru at the INSIGHT 2023 conference, organized by the Sadhguru Academy, focusing on electric mobility and artificial intelligence. Aggarwal highlighted the significance of developing an indigenous AI for India, emphasizing the need for AI models trained in diverse Indian languages.

During his interaction with Sadhguru, Aggarwal underscored, “It is imperative for the Indian ecosystem, economy, and entrepreneurs like us to establish an Indian framework for AI. AI is poised to significantly impact cultural integration. Present-day AI algorithms predominantly rely on non-Indian data available on the internet; however, a vast majority of Indian languages are underrepresented online. Therefore, it is crucial to amass Indian-centric data across various Indian languages to enhance the utility of AI in everyday scenarios.”

According to Tofler, a business intelligence platform, Krutrim was officially registered in April with two Directors: Bhavish Aggarwal and Krishnamurthy Tenneti.
