### Samsung Galaxy S22 to Miss Out on Galaxy AI Capabilities

Exclusive: “We want to secure the quality and the performance of what we deploy”

The recent launch of the Samsung Galaxy S24 series introduced a range of AI-powered capabilities. It has been revealed that certain existing Samsung devices such as the Galaxy S23, Galaxy Z Fold 5, and Galaxy Z Flip 5 will receive Galaxy AI enhancements in the upcoming months. However, there is uncertainty surrounding whether the Samsung Galaxy S22 series will benefit from these advancements.

Despite the Samsung Galaxy S22, S22 Plus, and S22 Ultra being relatively young, Samsung’s Head of Customer Experience, Patrick Chomet, indicated that the 2022 devices are not expected to receive the cutting-edge Galaxy AI features in the near future. Chomet expressed the significant effort involved in integrating these features into the Galaxy S24 series and mentioned that the focus is currently on extending Galaxy AI support to the Galaxy S23 devices within the first half of the year.

Chomet emphasized the importance of aligning AI experiences with mobile performance, particularly in terms of CPU and GPU capabilities. The company aims to ensure the quality and performance of the deployed features before expanding their availability to other devices. Initially, Galaxy AI will be limited to the previous generation devices, with plans to assess its functionality on a wider range of devices, including the S23, S23 FE, Z Fold 5, Z Flip 5, and Tab S9.

Regarding the similarity in chipsets between the Samsung Galaxy S23 FE and Samsung Galaxy S22, both utilizing Samsung’s Exynos 2200 chipset, Chomet acknowledged this fact but reiterated the current focus on restricting Galaxy AI to older devices.

It is anticipated that the new Galaxy AI features will be integrated into the mentioned 2023 devices through the One UI 6.1 update. However, it appears unlikely that the Galaxy S22 series and older models will receive the same treatment, despite being eligible for the One UI 6.1 update. Chomet’s cautious language suggests a gradual approach to future Galaxy AI compatibility, with an emphasis on prioritizing flagship devices for these enhancements.
