Microsoft has announced the introduction of a new AI button connected to Microsoft Copilot in upcoming laptops and devices, marking the first major change to the Windows keyboard in decades. Positioned to the right of the space bar, the Copilot essential button will trigger the newly launched Navigator services by Microsoft upon activation.
This innovative AI feature aims to assist users with various tasks such as generating summaries, conducting search engine queries, offering music recommendations, and more. Yusuf Mehdi, Microsoft’s executive vice president and chief marketing officer, expressed in a recent blog post that this advancement is designed to facilitate user engagement with AI technologies, simplifying daily usage through the integration of the Navigator into Windows knowledge.
Microsoft’s strong focus on artificial intelligence is evident in its collaboration with OpenAI, the organization behind the widely recognized ChatGPT language model that garnered public attention towards AI capabilities. The company’s dedication to advancing AI technologies is exemplified by the introduction of a dedicated AI key on the keyboard.
Incorporating relationalAI features in products like Windows 11 and the Bing search engine, Microsoft is at the forefront of integrating AI into its ecosystem. The upcoming second wave of Windows 11 devices from Microsoft’s partner companies is expected to include the Copilot option, with a rollout planned for February and subsequent months.
Yusuf Mehdi emphasized, “This new button is poised to elevate and streamline users’ computing experiences, heralding 2024 as the year of the AI PC.”
