Micron Technology has introduced a cutting-edge 128GB DDR5 RDIMM memory module, featuring a monolithic die with a capacity of 32GB. This innovative product is designed to support data center workloads, boasting an impressive performance of up to 8,000 MT/s (megatransfers per second).
The high-capacity and high-speed memory modules from Micron are tailored to meet the demanding requirements of various applications in data centers and cloud environments. These applications encompass tasks such as processing for concurrency, handling multicore count common compute workloads, managing in-memory databases, and facilitating artificial intelligence operations.
Powered by Micron’s advanced technology, these modules offer a host of enhancements compared to previous products. They deliver approximately 45% improved bit density, up to 24% enhanced energy efficiency, 16% lower latency, and a remarkable 28% boost in AI training performance over 3DS through-silicon via products.
Praveen Vaidyanathan, the Vice President and General Manager of Micron’s Compute Products Group, emphasized that the introduction of the 128GB DDR5 RDIMMs will significantly enhance the data center environment. These modules provide the necessary memory speed and power capabilities to handle extremely compute-intensive workloads effectively.
Furthermore, Micron’s innovative approach to technology development has led to the creation of the densest unified DRAM die and optimal array efficiency options. The energy distribution network has been fine-tuned, resulting in increased energy efficiency through voltage domain and restore management features.
Micron’s manufacturing processes leverage AI-powered techniques, enabling the rapid yield maturity of the 1 technology node. The 128GB RDIMMs are available in various speeds, including 4,800, 6,000, and 6,400 MT/s, with future compatibility planned for additional capacities.
With the 32GB DRAM die paving the way for enhanced storage investment growth, Micron offers energy-efficient MCRDIMM and JEDEC standard MRDIM products in capacities of 128GB, 256GB, and beyond.
