Users can’t seem to escape a new AI-powered assistant, whether they want to or not, thanks to Meta’s new app release last week.
Every time you click the search bar on Instagram and Facebook, the swift “ask Meta AI anything” appears. Additionally, it appears as a chat on WhatsApp and Messenger messaging programs.
The tool is powered by the recently released Llama 3 LLM, and Meta describes it as “the most intelligent AI assistant you can use for free.” It is also accessible in 12 nations besides the US.
In a first-quarter earnings call on Wednesday, CEO Mark Zuckerberg stated that the company is “on its way” to having the most used and best AI aide in the world.
But some social media followers aren’t content about the change, with one X article comparing it to “when Apple pressure-got that U2 song onto everyone’s iPhone. Business Insider therefore examined the AI’s capabilities, how it competes with another AI, and whether or not the technology can be avoided.
What it does
Meta AI is similar to other AI bots like OpenAI’s ChatGPT or Google’s Gemini. According to the device, it can help with a “wide range of topics, from basic information to more specific issues.” That includes generating language, offering suggestions, and creating pictures.
Users can access Meta AI in their feeds, messages, and research. They can even see the conversation story on Instagram and Messenger.
The Meta user can use the tool for free without exiting your game. By directing it to “imagine” what the image should be in terms of “an explanation of what you want the photograph to be.” It can also produce AI-generated images.
Users can make GIFs, also, by asking the bot to recreate the picture. Although the helper can create moving images, the GIFs are not intended to be humorous or criticism on conversations because they are offered in phone messaging.
How does it contrast to other AI bots?
The main distinguishes Meta AI from other chatbots is the ability to use it while you’re inside the social media app without exiting (ChatGPT, for example, is a stand-alone app). It’s the first feature to be quickly integrated into several social media platforms.
Zuckerberg recently stated to The Verge that the goal of Llama 3 was not to create something revolutionary but to introduce AI to platforms like Facebook and Instagram.
