An ex-Google executive expressed concerns that investors are feeling “deeply frustrated” due to the controversy surrounding their Gemini artificial intelligence (AI) model, which is perceived as a significant threat to the tech giant.

Following criticisms of the AI’s production of “woke” content, Google has taken some steps to address the issues related to Gemini.

David Friedberg, the CEO of Creation Board and a former Google professional, shared his perspective on the matter during the technology podcast, All-In, which he co-hosts with entrepreneurs and investors Chamath Palihapitiya, David Sacks, and Jason Calacanis.

Friedberg mentioned that some investors are “deeply frustrated and angry” about the potential impact of AI on Google’s market dominance.

Friedberg raised the question, “Are they prepared to maintain their search monopoly or retain the profit share that places the company at risk from AI?” He emphasized that the real threat to Google lies in its ability to adapt and compete effectively rather than the controversies surrounding woke and DEI issues.

He further explained, “The majority of investors I’ve interacted with are not upset about the woke and DEI aspects of the search engine. Instead, they are concerned about the implications of such errors on Google’s competitiveness and its organizational readiness to effectively compete from a consumer standpoint.”

“Therefore, investors are advocating for immediate action.”

Reports on social media highlighted instances where Google’s Gemini graphic technology inaccurately depicted historical images by replacing Caucasian individuals with images of Black, Native Americans, and Eastern individuals. Google discontinued the use of this feature last month.

Alphabet Inc., Google’s parent company, experienced a 4.4% decline in its stock value in the week following the problematic deployment of Gemini, resulting in a loss exceeding $70 billion.

Google’s CEO, Sundar Pichai, assured stakeholders that the company is diligently working to rectify the issues with the AI unit, labeling the generated graphics as “biased” and “completely unacceptable.”

Recently, the company rolled out an update for Gemini that empowers users with “enhanced control” over their responses, enabling them to rectify inaccurate outputs.
