**Regulatory Framework for Artificial Intelligence in India**

Eric Garcetti, the United States ambassador to India, advocated for “more profound meetings” between the two nations concerning a regulatory framework on artificial intelligence.

In an interactive session organized by the Observer Research Foundation, Garcetti stressed the importance of staying ahead of artificial intelligence (AI), suggesting it could exemplify the “multiplicative relationship” between the two democracies.

Despite extensive discussions on the issue with India, Garcetti pointed out that neither side has put forth an official suggestion or proposal yet.

According to Garcetti, President Joe Biden of the United States has expressed strong views on the topic.

Biden recently issued an executive order mandating AI developers to provide the federal government with an assessment of the cybersecurity risks associated with their programs, the data used for AI training and testing, and the performance metrics of the AI.

Garcetti cautioned that the repercussions of a catastrophic event involving artificial intelligence could materialize sooner than anticipated if proactive measures are not taken.

During the India-US 2+2 dialogue last week, Garcetti highlighted the significant progress made by both countries in strengthening their crucial defense agreement, which continues to evolve rapidly due to initiatives like the US-India blueprint for industrial cooperation and defense.

Advocating for collaboration and cooperation between the US and India in emerging fields, Garcetti urged New Delhi and Washington to intensify their discussions on artificial intelligence (AI).

He underscored the importance of the administrative aspect of our militaries, stating, “We sometimes depend solely on weaponry and acquisitions, or potentially joint development.”

To leverage technology for positive purposes rather than division and harm, he suggested that nations should “explore ways to enhance our science and technology partnerships.”

The joint statement issued after the 2+2 Dialogue, as per the US ambassador, demonstrated both countries’ commitment to promoting a rules-based international order to safeguard a free, open, and fair Indo-Pacific region through initiatives like the QUAD and addressing global challenges.
