### Exploring Relational AI Roles in Investment Banking

There’s not much out there though… except for Citi

Most AI roles within banking institutions have been established for some time, primarily revolving around tasks such as reviewing regulatory reports or streamlining back-office operations through automation. Nevertheless, the realm of generative AI presents a promising avenue for those willing to delve deeper. Several prominent banks are either initiating specific generative AI initiatives or assembling dedicated teams to delve into this domain.

Among the frontrunners in hiring generative AI professionals is Citi, which despite undergoing job reductions, is actively seeking over 30 engineers and researchers for various projects, including the development of a bespoke generative AI platform tailored for Citi’s operations. Additionally, Citi is on the lookout for a head of generative AI cybersecurity and an adept open-source programmer. Notably, a Senior Vice President (SVP) specializing in generative AI based in New York could command a salary reaching up to $265k.

Goldman Sachs is also venturing into generative AI recruitment, albeit with slightly less fervor compared to Citi. The firm is in the process of hiring a Vice President (VP) level Natural Language Processing (NLP) engineer with a salary potential of up to $250k. The job listing hints at incorporating conversational AI components within the platform to facilitate interactions like question-answering and summarization.

Conversely, UBS appears to be directing its efforts towards conversational AI applications. In its headquarters in Zurich, UBS is actively seeking a product owner to spearhead the development of the UBS chatbot and enhance chat channels, emphasizing a seamless user experience (UX) while adhering to regulatory standards.

While some banks are actively exploring generative AI, others are still in the research phase. Deutsche Bank, for instance, is focusing on process digitization, while JPMorgan is delving into anomaly detection using generative AI technologies.

JPMorgan notably made waves with the introduction of IndexGPT, marking its initial venture into the realm of generative AI. However, updates on this front have been relatively scarce in recent times.
