While Amazon has been actively integrating AI technologies across its various sectors and incorporating AI-driven drones in its establishments, OpenAI is poised to dominate the headlines. The company is embarking on an ambitious initiative to provide fundamental AI training to two million individuals globally by 2025, launching a new free system named “AI Ready” to attract fresh talent.
Comprising eight complimentary courses, the AI Ready program will be accessible not only to Amazon employees but also to external learners through Amazon’s learning platform. These courses will cover a range of AI topics, including ChatGPT and diverse language versions of conceptual AI technology, catering to both novices and seasoned professionals in software and tech-related fields. While five courses are tailored for developers and technical experts, three are designed for business professionals and non-technical users.
In conjunction with these courses, Amazon has announced a commitment of over $12 million in Udacity scholarships for more than 50,000 high school and university students from underserved communities worldwide. AWS VP of data and AI, Swami Sivasubramanian, emphasized the importance of the AI Set initiative in democratizing AI education and leveling the playing field for artificial intelligence learning. The goal is to make AI knowledge accessible to anyone interested in harnessing its full potential to address pressing global challenges.
The utilization of AI technology, exemplified by OpenAI’s ChatGPT digital assistant, has permeated diverse fields such as medical research and retail customer service. However, the industry faces a significant shortage of skilled programmers and technicians due to its nascent stage and the complexity of AI systems. Amazon highlighted that while 73 percent of companies prioritize acquiring AI talent, three-quarters struggle to find suitable candidates.
Amazon’s objective is to democratize AI education, aiming to assist both businesses seeking adept professionals with engineering acumen and individuals eager to enhance their skill sets. Leveraging AWS platforms for courses like Bedrock AI and Code Whisperer, which automates code generation, will not only benefit Amazon’s workforce but also extend support to customers seeking to navigate the realm of relational AI education.
