### Google’s AI Struggles with Mathematical Concepts

Google’s AI search tool seems to struggle with basic math problems, as noted in a review by The Washington Post.

Introduced in May, the experimental tool known as Search Generative Experience (SGE) aims to enhance the search experience using generative AI capabilities. Despite Google’s claims of improving the search process, the tool encountered difficulties when asked simple questions, according to Washington Post reporter Geoffrey A. Fowler.

In a recent review, Fowler highlighted a concerning flaw in the AI’s response accuracy. For instance, when prompted with a query about Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg’s net worth, the tool provided inaccurate and nonsensical figures, such as “\(46.24 per hour, or \)96,169 per year,” raising doubts about its reliability.

The Financial Times reported that Google is contemplating monetizing certain AI-powered features, potentially including the flawed search tool. This decision could impact paying subscribers who expect accurate and dependable information, especially regarding prominent business figures.

Despite Google’s efforts to enhance its AI models and search capabilities, issues with accuracy and reliability persist. The company’s previous AI model, Gemini, faced criticism earlier this year for generating historically inaccurate images of people of color, leading to its partial removal.

In response to concerns and criticisms, Google stated that it is continuously improving its generative AI experiments in Search to meet evolving user needs. However, challenges remain, as evidenced by ongoing controversies and errors in AI-generated content.

As Google navigates these challenges, it faces additional legal scrutiny, with Axel Springer, the parent company of Business Insider, joining other media groups in a $2.3 billion lawsuit against Google over alleged losses related to advertising practices. This legal action underscores the complexities and controversies surrounding Google’s AI initiatives and their broader implications.
