Gmail may soon introduce a new AI capability that could revolutionize the email drafting process. Referred to as ‘Draft email with voice,’ this innovative feature enables users to compose emails solely using their voice commands.

Previously, Google unveiled the ‘Help me Write’ functionality at the I/O 2023 event, allowing users to generate a comprehensive email draft rapidly through text prompts. Leveraging Google’s sophisticated machine learning algorithms, this feature promises enhanced outcomes, as per the company’s assertions.

In a recent blog post, Google elaborated on the feature, stating, “Simply input the prompt for your email, hit create, and a complete draft materializes… It closely aligns with your intentions, but you can further refine it as needed.”

According to a report by TheSpAndroid, as cited by Android Police, users will soon have the ability to dictate the type of email they wish to compose verbally, following which the Gmail app, owned by Google, will autonomously craft the email.

The report highlights the introduction of a voice typing interface featuring a prominent microphone icon that activates upon initiating a new email or responding to an existing one. By tapping the microphone icon, users can commence voice input and then click on ‘Create’ upon completion. Subsequently, Gmail will initiate the email drafting process, leveraging artificial intelligence capabilities.

However, the report cautions that the timeline for the official integration of this feature into Gmail remains uncertain, as the code strings associated with the update were initially identified in October 2023.

In a separate development, Gmail is streamlining the process of unsubscribing from emails on both the mobile and web versions. Google is segregating the “Report spam & unsubscribe” category into two distinct options: “Report spam” and “Unsubscribe.”

Through a Google Workspace update announcement, the company emphasized, “Recognizing the challenges users face in managing unwanted emails, we have introduced new guidelines for bulk senders to enhance user safety. Now, we are introducing additional measures to simplify the unsubscribe process for undesirable emails in Gmail across web and mobile platforms.”
