Owners of older Samsung products who are eager to explore the capabilities of Galaxy AI have experienced a series of ups and downs.
Samsung initially did not extend the same level of commitment to devices such as the S22 and earlier models, despite previously hinting at the introduction of advanced artificial intelligence features in the upcoming Galaxy S23 series, Galaxy Z Fold 5, Z Flip 5, and Tab S9.
Nevertheless, recent indications suggest that Samsung might eventually incorporate some AI functionalities into older devices. Speculation arose following a Google press release mentioning Galaxy AI and hinting at additional devices in the pipeline.
There is now anticipation surrounding the potential devices slated to receive the Galaxy AI update. Reports from 9to5Google highlight a forum post on Samsung’s Asian boards outlining the devices expected to receive One UI 6.1 with Galaxy AI. This list includes not only the S22 series but also the flagship handsets from 2021.
However, post-2023 devices did not receive the same level of Samsung AI integration as the current flagships, as explained in the article. The 2022 devices will now have access to a slightly scaled-down version of Galaxy AI, lacking the Instant Slow-Mo feature. This adjustment affects devices like the Galaxy S22 series, Z Fold 4, Z Flip 4, and Tab S8 models.
For owners of 2021 devices such as the Galaxy S21, Z Fold 3, or Z Flip 3, the Samsung AI experience will be relatively limited, with only Circle to Seek and support for “Magic Rewrite.” The latter appears to be a mistranslation of “Generative Edit,” a cloud-based feature that does not heavily rely on the device’s hardware limitations.
While having access to all features on older Samsung devices would be ideal, any complimentary upgrades are always appreciated. Circle to Seek stands out as one of the more valuable Galaxy AI functionalities. Moreover, the potential of Generative Edit would have seemed futuristic back in January 2021 during the S21 launch, making it a noteworthy free update that many users would have welcomed at the time.
As per the forum post, the update is expected to roll out in early May, with a slight possibility of a delayed global release following the initial Korean rollout.
