The Federal Trade Commission has instructed OpenAI, Microsoft, Alphabet, Amazon, and Anthropic to furnish details regarding recent acquisitions and alliances with AI firms and cloud service providers. These orders are part of an investigation aimed at scrutinizing business relationships and investments with artificial intelligence providers to gain a better understanding of their impact on the competitive environment.
As per the FTC, the companies have a 45-day window from the receipt of the order to comply with the directive.
An earlier report by Politico highlighted discussions within the Justice Department and FTC regarding the scrutiny of OpenAI, particularly its collaboration with Microsoft, in terms of antitrust implications. Microsoft’s substantial investment of over $10 billion in OpenAI has sparked antitrust concerns following their partnership.
