Fanvue, a Competitor of OnlyFans, is Embracing AI-Generated Adult Content, Drawing Scrutiny from Some Creators

- Fanvue, a platform similar to OnlyFans, is making significant investments in AI-driven adult influencers.
- However, some creators are raising questions about Fanvue’s operational strategies.
In recent months, a new trend of “virtual influencers,” “digital dream girls,” and “digital muses” has emerged on various social media platforms like Instagram.
These AI-generated influencers, such as Sika Moon and Aitana, have garnered substantial followings, ranging from thousands to hundreds of thousands of followers. Much like Sika Moon and Aitana, many of these influencers are young, attractive women who share explicit content with their most devoted fans.
The primary hub for these creators has been Fanvue, a platform akin to OnlyFans and Patreon that provides exclusive content behind paywalls. While other similar platforms restrict AI-generated adult content, Fanvue is actively endorsing it and investing heavily in its community of AI influencers.
Despite Fanvue’s efforts to expand its user base and business model through AI-generated explicit content, some creators have expressed reservations about certain practices employed by the platform.
One creator characterized their association with Fanvue as both “a blessing and a challenge.” Several creators, including the one mentioned, have voiced concerns about Fanvue’s response time in addressing their issues. To safeguard their relationship with the platform, all creators cited in this article have chosen to remain anonymous, although their identities are known to Business Insider.
A specific practice by Fanvue that has unsettled creators is the platform’s strategy of sending emails to select users, offering complimentary subscriptions to specific AI models.
The creators, who have been diligently working to expand their follower base on the platform with the aim of generating income, perceived this approach as a betrayal. They argued that leveraging their subscribers’ emails to promote other influencers without consent was unethical and raised apprehensions about losing their fan base.
While not explicitly prohibited in the terms and conditions, influencers have raised ethical concerns about the platform’s intentions and its dedication to fostering an equitable and transparent creator community.
In response to these concerns, Fanvue’s CEO, Will Monange, explained that such initiatives were part of the company’s ongoing tests to enhance fan engagement and retention.
Monange emphasized that retaining fans within the platform and encouraging them to explore various creators could ultimately lead to increased value for all parties involved. He acknowledged the creators’ perspectives and clarified that Fanvue’s objective was to ensure fans derive value from their interactions on the platform.
Some of the models promoted in these marketing emails by Fanvue have minimal presence on social media, prompting the creator community to question the origins of these influencers and Fanvue’s rationale for endorsing them specifically.
Monange clarified that the test involved “creators comfortable with offering free trials.”
Creators Highlight Areas for Improvement in Fanvue’s ‘Ambassadorship’ Program
Following its success in the AI domain, Fanvue initiated an “ambassador” program, enlisting AI influencers primarily for social media promotion of the platform and its support for creators.
Several creators disclosed that they were offered between \(200 and \)300 for Instagram and X content under non-contract agreements communicated via text.
A second creator, also an ambassador with tens of thousands of Instagram followers, shared a message indicating a $200 compensation for specific promotional tasks related to Fanvue.
While two creators reported delays in payment for their promotional posts, they confirmed receiving payment after Business Insider intervened.
Monange assured that Fanvue was actively working to formalize all ambassador agreements to resemble traditional influencer partnerships. He acknowledged the payment delays as oversights, emphasizing that it was not in the platform’s interest to withhold payments from its influencer partners.
Despite the challenges and uncertainties surrounding Fanvue, many creators behind these AI influencers appreciate the platform’s attention and continue to nurture their association with it.
According to a third creator, “The treatment of AI creators by Fanvue is commendable. Allowing AI characters to establish their own community and access tools for monetization is a positive aspect, and the platform offers intriguing resources.”
