We’ve dedicated significant time at The Knowledge to discussing artificial intelligence and the individuals behind its creation. However, ultimately, the capacity of data centers determines their ability to deploy applications to a vast audience. Moreover, the accessibility of such functionalities cannot be taken for granted.

During the recent Pacific Telecommunications Council meeting in Hawaii, I engaged with prominent figures from American data centers. Some express concerns regarding the availability of sufficient power for the upcoming launch of new AI-centric data centers later this year.

The primary question that has surfaced is, “Where is the power?” as highlighted by Todd Raymond, the CEO of 1547 and a data center operator.

Nvidia’s graphics processing models, which power ChatGPT and similar AI technologies, consume significantly more energy than traditional processing chips. As a result, cloud service providers are encountering challenges in procuring an adequate power supply.
