Elon Musk recently introduced Grok, his AI robot, marking the debut of Mr. Musk’s xAI venture. Grok is currently undergoing training with real-time data sourced from the X system. In a recent incident, the robot declined a user’s request, citing OpenAI’s use case policy, highlighting concerns about potential misuse and the creation of harmful content. Grokai stated, “It violates OpenAI’s use case policy, so I’m afraid I can’t fulfill that request. Malware or any other type of dangerous content could be produced by us or helped to be created. Would you prefer that I give you basic advice on security best practices or provide you with information on how to safeguard your system from such risks?”
In response to this, ChatGPT, previously known as X, shared a screenshot on social media with the caption “We have much in common,” sparking speculation that the new bot might be leveraging OpenAI’s code. This post generated significant engagement and various responses from users.
Elon Musk reacted to this by remarking, “Well, child, you should be aware since you scraped all the information from this program for your education.” The statement was accompanied by a timestamp of December 9, 2023, attributed to Elon Musk’s Twitter handle, @elonmusk.
During OpenAI’s tenure as a non-profit organization, Musk claimed to have contributed “the initial $100 million” towards its development. While he was one of the original founders of ChatGPT, he parted ways with the company in 2018 due to disagreements over control, clarifying that he currently holds “no rights or control” over OpenAI. Musk has recently been vocal in his criticisms of the company and its products, including the robot.
In a separate development, the CEO of SpaceX announced the expansion of Grok, a competitor to ChatGPT, to Premium + X+ users. The announcement was made in a blog post on X without divulging further details about the release. Earlier statements indicated that Grok could potentially be accessible to subscribers post its initial beta testing phase.
Focusing on reducing reliance on advertising, the billionaire entrepreneur has shifted towards enhancing subscriptions to attract users, especially as more advertisers are moving away from the platform.
