Trump highlighted the alarming nature of AI, emphasizing its potential dangers and the absence of concrete solutions to address them. He pointed out the proliferation of AI-generated deepfakes, citing instances involving prominent figures like himself, Joe Biden, Pope Francis, Tom Hanks, and Taylor Swift.
The former President underscored the urgency for action against AI and deepfakes, warning of their potential to incite conflicts and manipulate information. Trump’s apprehensions echoed similar sentiments expressed by the United Nations and UN Secretary-General regarding the responsible and ethical use of AI technology.
Addressing the security implications posed by AI, Trump emphasized the need for immediate attention to combat the evolving challenges presented by deepfakes. He raised concerns about the ease with which AI can alter and distort information, creating significant security risks.
Furthermore, U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission chair Gary Gensler cautioned about the financial risks associated with deepfakes, highlighting the potential for market manipulation and fraud facilitated by AI technology.
In response to the growing concerns surrounding misinformation, OpenAI outlined its initiatives to combat fake news using ChatGPT in preparation for the upcoming 2024 election cycle, focusing on promoting accurate information and enhancing platform safety.
