Dakota Johnson was the host of Saturday Night Live last night, and during the show, she made a reference to her role as Madame Web. Johnson humorously described the upcoming Marvel movie by saying, “I have a new movie coming out called Madame Web. It belongs to the Marvel Universe and features Sydney Sweeney. So, it’s like the perfect movie created by artificial intelligence for your boyfriend.”
In the realm of superhero films, if many men could design their ideal movie, it would likely involve Sweeney clad in spandex!
The anticipation for Madame Web among fans hasn’t been overwhelming, partly due to the disappointment left by Venom and Morbius. While the former was a commercial success, the latter is projected to have a modest $25 million opening weekend.
Reflecting on her role in Madame Web, Johnson shared, “I’ve never experienced filming on a blue screen with simulated explosions and someone yelling, ‘Explosion!’ while you react to it. It felt absolutely surreal to me.” She added, “I had doubts about how it would turn out! I just hoped I did justice to the role! But I had faith in [SJ Clarkson]. She has been fully dedicated to this project from the beginning.”
In a different narrative dimension, Madame Web diverges from the typical superhero genre to narrate the standalone origin tale of one of Marvel’s most mysterious heroines.
This suspenseful thriller showcases Dakota Johnson as Cassandra Webb, a paramedic in Manhattan who possesses possible clairvoyant powers. As she grapples with revelations about her history, she forms connections with three young women whose destinies hold immense power…provided they can navigate through a perilous present.
Directed by SJ Clarkson and scripted by Clarkson in collaboration with Claire Parker, the movie is also expected to credit Morbius writers Matt Sazama & Burk Sharpless, though the specific draft they contributed to remains undisclosed. The confirmed ensemble cast includes Dakota Johnson, Sydney Sweeney, Celeste O’Connor, Isabela Merced, Tahar Rahim, Mike Epps, Emma Roberts, and Adam Scott.
