The Communications Workers of America (CWA) has recently released a manual on leveraging AI in professional settings.
The organization emphasizes that the purpose of this resource is not to hinder the integration of new technologies but to ensure their widespread benefits.
Within the CWA’s AI council, specific recommendations have been offered regarding the negotiation and implementation of artificial intelligence within public policy frameworks.
Key principles outlined include:
- Proactive engagement by CWA members and management to tackle challenges arising from AI tools in the workplace.
- Advocacy for the involvement of the judiciary to evaluate AI applications to mitigate biases and unwarranted decision-making.
- Promotion of policy measures at various levels to guard against discriminatory AI practices targeting protected groups.
CWA President Claude Cummings Jr. asserts that while AI has the capacity to enhance productivity and creativity, its benefits must be accessible to the workforce.
Cummings states, “We are prioritizing our members’ interests and advocating for the active participation of American workers in shaping the impact of AI on the future of labor, as outlined in our coalition agreement.”
In a separate development, SAG-AFTRA engaged in discussions with ten gaming companies regarding the implications of artificial intelligence in the entertainment industry.
