The cineSearch Service Improves Content Discovery with a Vast Array of Enhanced Metadata to Fuel an Advanced Recommendation System that Unifies Search Across All Streaming Platforms
LOS ANGELES, Feb. 14, 2024 /PRNewswire/ – Cineverse Corp. (NASDAQ: CNVS), a leading global streaming technology and entertainment firm, unveiled today the upcoming debut of cineSearch. This innovative AI-driven movie search platform aims to transform the search and discovery (SAND) experience by addressing the fundamental query of audiences: “What should we watch?”
The public beta version of cineSearch will launch on the Cineverse streaming platform in Spring 2024 (interested users can sign up for the public beta starting today at www.cinesearch.com). Subsequently, it will be progressively rolled out in collaboration with OEM and third-party streaming platform partners in the coming months.
Powered by Google Cloud’s Vertex AI Search, the cineSearch service was created by Cineverse. The foundational technology behind cineSearch was constructed as an adaptable interface utilizing the PaLM 2 Large Language Model (LLM) to design a chatbot tailored for feature films and television content. Leveraging PaLM 2 and Google Cloud’s gen AI infrastructure, cineSearch offers an interactive, conversational experience for individuals seeking recommendations on movie selections.
As a part of this new offering, Cineverse introduces “Ava,” an artificial intelligence-based video advisor.
The introduction of Cineverse’s AI-driven search functionality will leverage the first exclusive AI model in the movie industry, finely tuned with a comprehensive array of metadata – encompassing both standard metadata and enriched contextual metadata derived from computer vision (e.g., weather or setting) – covering over 100,000 Hollywood movies and TV shows. cineSearch provides a unified search engine supporting numerous search parameters such as theme, tone, mood, setting, music score, plot, micro-genre, and various other attributes for content available on all streaming platforms.
Additionally, the cineSearch service will incorporate scene-specific metadata, a viewer’s past viewing habits, as well as their geographical location, current date, local weather conditions, and other variables to ascertain the most suitable recommendations. Users will have the ability to explore a multitude of characteristics at both the film and scene levels, simplifying the process of discovering the perfect movie. Moreover, if a specific title is unavailable within Cineverse’s extensive library, Ava will suggest alternative movies accessible on other platforms – offering direct links for a seamless movie discovery journey.
“Effective search and discovery pose a significant challenge for streaming service users today,” notes Tony Huidor, Chief Technology Officer & Chief Operating Officer of Cineverse. “cineSearch was initially developed to address this challenge. With the capabilities of Google Cloud’s Vertex AI platform, we can now expand this feature beyond our initial vision. This underscores the potential of AI to enhance user experiences and facilitate the discovery of exceptional films that fans might otherwise overlook.”
“Generative AI holds the promise of reshaping the media landscape, ushering in a new era of cloud-powered functionalities that can notably enhance the consumer experience,” remarked Anil Jain, Global Managing Director of Strategic Consumer Industries at Google Cloud. “By harnessing Google Cloud’s cutting-edge gen AI capabilities, cineSearch can personalize and streamline the user experience, offering viewers an enhanced way to explore new content, with tailored recommendations for movies and TV shows readily available.”
Cineverse leads the charge in the film industry by introducing AI technology in a pioneering, advanced search feature that enables users to search across multiple dimensions not found on any other platform. This groundbreaking service also underscores AI’s capacity to drive the entertainment sector forward by spotlighting content that might otherwise go unnoticed by fans.
