According to a press release from Google Chrome on Tuesday, the company is rolling out new practical AI capabilities to enhance the organization of your online browsing experience.
Starting with Chrome version M121, users can access various Experimental AI features from the Settings page. One of these features is Tab Groups, which allows users to instantly group pages into specific categories. To do this, simply right-click on a tab and select “Organize Related Pages.”
Google has announced that these features will be gradually rolled out in the coming days, and users may need to restart Chrome for the Experimental AI functions to take effect.
Another AI feature in Chrome enables users to create unique themes using Artificial Intelligence, similar to the AI-generated wallpapers on Pixel devices. To access this feature, open a new tab and click on Customize Chrome at the bottom-right corner of the screen. Then, choose Create with AI after selecting the desired design.
The focus on AI by Google is evident in the innovative systems capable of generating new content such as words, code, images, and videos with minimal input. This emphasis on AI integration is seen as a strategic move by major tech companies like Google, Microsoft, and Apple following the success of ChatGPT in late 2022.
Mark Zuckerberg, the CEO of Meta, has expressed the company’s goal of advancing artificial general intelligence, a more advanced form of AI. The increasing reliance on AI has led to tensions between Big Tech companies and concerns over job displacement. The potential economic value generated by generative AI, estimated at up to $4.4 trillion by McKinsey, underscores the competitive drive in this space.
In the near future, Chrome will offer assistance in crafting restaurant reviews and other text using relational AI, in addition to features like Tab Groups and AI themes. This practical AI feature will allow users to prompt Chrome for text suggestions with relevant keywords by right-clicking on a text box, starting next month.
