Children’s Hospital Los Angeles has collaborated with Vital to incorporate an AI-driven tool named ERAdvisor, aiming to enhance the patient-family experience by providing clarity and predictability.
Significance of the Collaboration
By bridging the information gap through clear, plain-language test results and predictable wait times, the implementation of ERAdvisor at CHLA could alleviate the stress on patients and their families, as per Vital’s recent announcement.
Upon registering at the ER, families are sent a text message prompting them to log in to a secure web-based platform. Subsequently, they receive real-time updates regarding their child’s status, location within the department, lab and imaging status, as well as any changes in care.
Families can access Vital’s multilingual digital companion, ERAdvisor, for free via CHLA’s existing MyVisit portal without the need for account registration or app downloads.
Using generative AI and machine learning, the company has developed a doctor-to-patient translator engine that simplifies clinical notes, imaging and lab results, among other data, to a 5th-grade reading level. Additionally, its AI tools encompass patient education, real-time surveys, service requests, and follow-up scheduling.
Vital offers four AI tools catering to hospital emergency departments, inpatient stays, and ongoing care. These tools provide interfaces for both patients and staff, integrating seamlessly with electronic health records. Currently, they are operational in 28 health systems and over 100 hospitals across 19 states.

Epic, an EHR provider, has also embraced AI to transform workflows. Recently, the company introduced an AI feature that summarizes previous notes in a patient’s chart, tailored to the physician’s context and care setting, as explained by Sumit Rana, Executive Vice President of Research and Development at Epic.
