At the recent AWS re:Invent conference, Amazon Web Services (AWS) and Nvidia unveiled fresh collaborative efforts aimed at enhancing their AI infrastructure with supercomputing capabilities.
One of the key highlights is Project Ceiba, a supercomputer seamlessly integrated with various AWS services, granting Nvidia access to a wide array of AWS features, including Virtual Private Cloud encrypted networking and high-performance block storage.
Project Ceiba’s primary focus lies in research and development endeavors geared towards advancing AI applications such as large language models (LLMs), graphics encompassing images, videos, 3D rendering, simulations, digital biology, robotics, self-driving cars, climate prediction, and more.
Additionally, AWS and Nvidia are teaming up to power Nvidia DGX Cloud, an AI supercomputing service catering to enterprises seeking multi-node supercomputing capabilities for training intricate LLMs and generative AI models. This service will be seamlessly integrated with Nvidia AI Enterprise software, offering customers direct access to Nvidia’s AI experts.
Furthermore, Amazon will be the pioneer cloud provider to offer Nvidia’s GH200 Grace Hopper Superchips featuring multi-node NVLink technology through its Elastic Cloud Compute (EC2) platform. These Superchips will empower Amazon EC2 to deliver up to 20 terabytes of memory, ideal for handling terabyte-scale workloads effectively.
Nvidia is set to integrate its NeMo Retriever microservice into AWS, facilitating users in enhancing the development of generative AI tools like chatbots and summarization tools that leverage accelerated semantic retrieval.
Moreover, Nvidia BioNeMo, accessible on Amazon SageMaker and soon to be incorporated into AWS on Nvidia DGX Cloud, aims to expedite the drug discovery process for pharmaceutical companies by streamlining and hastening AI model training using proprietary data.
Jensen Huang, Nvidia’s founder and CEO, expressed, “Generative AI is revolutionizing cloud workloads by placing accelerated computing at the core of diverse content generation.” He highlighted the collaborative efforts between Nvidia and AWS across the entire computing stack, emphasizing their shared commitment to providing cost-effective, cutting-edge generative AI solutions to customers.
Adam Selipsky, CEO of Amazon Web Services, emphasized the longstanding 13-year collaboration between AWS and Nvidia, marking significant milestones such as the world’s first GPU cloud instance. Selipsky underscored ongoing innovations with Nvidia to optimize AWS as the premier platform for GPU operations, combining next-generation Nvidia Grace Hopper Superchips with AWS’s robust networking, hyper-scale clustering, and advanced virtualization capabilities.
