Singapore is embracing the potential of artificial intelligence (AI) to enhance its healthcare system, shifting towards a focus on preventive care for its population. Dr. Janil Puthucheary, Senior Minister of State for Health, highlighted the opportunities presented by AI during the AI Health Summit on November 23. He emphasized the role of AI in improving diagnosis, treatment, early detection, disease prevention, and drug development.

The integration of AI is expected to enhance medical decision-making, streamline the workflow of healthcare teams, and empower individuals to take charge of their health. Dr. Puthucheary acknowledged that the full implementation of AI in healthcare may require some time to mature.

As Singapore advances its Healthier SG initiative to prioritize preventive healthcare, the goal is to promote overall well-being among its citizens. Medical professionals are urged to embrace AI technologies fully, understanding both the capabilities and limitations of these systems, along with the ethical considerations involved.

To equip healthcare professionals with the necessary skills, AI Singapore and SingHealth have established a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to provide tailored AI training and certification programs. These initiatives, commencing in June next year, will feature e-learning modules, practical training sessions, and workshops covering various topics, including artificial ethics. Additionally, joint research and innovation projects will be supported through funding to drive advancements in healthcare technology.
