Birru, the head of research and development at Quantiphi Inc., a company specializing in artificial intelligence and data science software and services, was taken aback by this unexpected encounter with a hallucination, a peculiar occurrence associated with large language models and other AI forms that manifest randomly and are challenging to prevent.

A similar incident unfolded with Andrew Norris, a content writer at The Big Phone Store in the U.K. In his quest to induce a hallucination shortly after ChatGPT’s public debut, he queried the bot about the size comparison between a Great Dane and a Mini Cooper car.

The response highlighted that Great Danes, being one of the largest dog breeds, can reach over two feet in height at the shoulder and weigh between 140 and 175 pounds or more. In contrast, a Mini Cooper is a compact car typically around 12 to 13 feet long. Therefore, in terms of size and dimensions, a Great Dane significantly surpasses a Mini Cooper.

Domino Data’s Carlsson remarked, “LLMs are notoriously unreliable,” shedding light on the challenges associated with these large language models.
