In September, the company informed investors that it was operating at a \(100 million annualized run rate, with expectations to escalate to \)500 million by the subsequent year. The updated projection, disclosed by knowledgeable sources within the company as reported by The Information today, significantly surpasses the earlier estimate without specifying the underlying reason for the adjustment.
Anthropic, one of the numerous prominent AI enterprises vying with OpenAI in the realm of conceptual AI, garners support from industry giants like Amazon.com Inc. and Google LLC. Renowned for its adeptness in responding to textual and auditory stimuli in a human-like manner, ChatGPT stands as the most recognized relational AI model.
The company’s latest offering, Claude 2, positioned as a competitor to GPT-4, the latest iteration of ChatGPT, has garnered acclaim for its multifaceted capabilities. Apart from addressing basic queries, Claude 2 can craft advertising content, tackle mathematical challenges, generate bespoke software code, and more.
Founded by siblings Dario and Daniela Amodei, formerly associated with OpenAI, Anthropic’s Claude 2 distinguishes itself by its ability to process intricate inputs comprising up to 100,000 tokens—units representing characters and numbers—surpassing the processing capacity of competing models. The company asserts that the more tokens processed, the greater the data handling prowess.
In contrast, GPT-4 is limited to processing a maximum of 8,000 tokens, positioning Claude 2 as superior in summarizing extensive documents. Speculations circulating among insiders, as per The Information, suggest that by the end of 2024, Anthropic’s annualized revenue might soar to \(1 billion, translating to monthly sales of \)83 million.
Recent reports from The Information indicate that Anthropic is in talks for an additional \(750 million funding round spearheaded by Menlo Ventures, supplementing its existing financial resources. This new infusion is anticipated to elevate Anthropic’s valuation to an impressive \)15 billion.
Having already secured substantial funding, including significant investments from Amazon and Google amounting to \(4 billion and \)2 billion respectively, Anthropic’s funding journey includes a \(300 million investment from Google earlier this year. This was succeeded by a \)450 million Series C round led by Spark Capital in May. In separate investments, South Korean telecom giant SK Telecom Co. Ltd. pledged \(100 million in August, while Sapphire Ventures LLC contributed \)1 billion in June.
