Amazon is set to introduce Rufus, its new AI assistant, within the search bar of the Amazon mobile app.
The integration of Rufus, Amazon’s AI assistant, into the mobile shopping app marks a significant advancement. This innovative feature, powered by a sophisticated language model trained on diverse datasets such as Amazon’s product listings, customer feedback, community interactions, and web data, aims to provide product information, comparisons, and personalized recommendations.
Users will have the convenience of interacting with Rufus either through text input or voice commands directly within the existing search bar of the mobile app. Amazon plans to gradually roll out Rufus to a select group of U.S. customers in the upcoming weeks.
This initiative aligns with Amazon’s strategic focus on enhancing its AI capabilities, reflecting the broader trend in the e-commerce and tech industries towards integrating advanced conversational AI technologies into digital platforms.
The name “Rufus” holds significance within Amazon, originally belonging to the dog of the company’s editor-in-chief during its early years. This association led to the naming of one of Amazon’s office buildings in Seattle as well.
The introduction of Rufus precedes Amazon’s fourth-quarter earnings announcement scheduled for later today, following the market closure at 1 p.m. Pacific time.
