When Meta reported on Wednesday (April 24), this was the case. And that is how Alphabet reacted to its quarterly earnings report on Thursday (April 25).

By the numbers, the company rode its traditional revenue drivers of search, cloud, and YouTube to an operating income climb of 46% year over year, to $25.47 billion.

But after Meta stock got hit with investors frustrated over the company’s $30 billion-plus price tag for artificial intelligence (AI) development, Alphabet’s navigation of that issue was expected to be on display. Yet, no such particular quantity was forthcoming. Otherwise, CEO Sundar Pichai placed AI in the context of the bank’s history and product development track record.

He noted that Google needed more than 15 years to reach $100 billion in annual revenue. And its annual revenue has increased from $100 billion to more than $300 billion in the last six years. As a quick refresher to his opening remarks on the earnings call, Pichai stated that the company’s YouTube and cloud business will have a $100 billion run rate by the end of the year. The implied message was that AI would accomplish these lofty goals.

But the main focus was unambiguously on AI. In addition to highlighting the company’s commitment to integrating AI into most of its products and services, Pichéi identified six key areas where Alphabet is strengthening its AI skills.

Second, Pichai emphasized Alphabet’s base in AI study, having identified itself as an “Artificial-first” business since 2016. He praised the launch of the Gemini 1.5 Pro, a design that improves long-context understanding and bidirectional capabilities across a range of formats, including audio and video, and has received positive feedback from developers and business customers.

Pichai claimed that Alphabet maintains a leading position in terms of infrastructure thanks to some of the most effective and secure information centers created specifically for AI type training. Custom fifth-generation GPUs, which are essential to developing and deploying sophisticated AI initiatives, including the Gemini designs, support these services.

Pichai then moved on to AI improvements in the search field, which he characterized as a crucial place for expansion. People can handle more complex queries and communicate with research results in creative ways, such as through physical search on mobile devices, with the help of Alphabet’s AI-powered search engine. He claimed that these features have improved person engagement and happiness, which is a positive sign of the company’s strategic use of AI.

Pichai also discussed Alphabet’s international product footprints, noting that the business operates over six materials with regular customers exceeding 2 billion, including Android devices. This broad reach gives users a solid platform for loosely deploying new AI-driven features and enhancing user experiences around the world.

Pichai subsequently outlined the agency’s efforts to increase operational speed and efficiency. New organizational changes, such as the unity of the machine learning facilities and developer groups, aim to streamline operations and elicit more informed decisions within the business. This reform is a component of a larger plan to enhance the cost structure and improve product delivery, which is eventually evidenced in Alphabet’s booming operating margins.

Lastly, Pichai clearly did what Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg did certainly done day before: He connected AI to ROI. Pichar comprehensive advertising techniques linked to AI, noting distinct pathways through promotion, sky services, and subscriptions.

He mentioned Google’s inclusion of Gemini models into its Cloud services and the latest 100 million paid Google One subscribers, which indicate strong growth and implementation of AI-enabled offerings. He emphasized the value of AI in establishing a position as the leader in sky security and boosting YouTube user engagement through AI-driven content and background capabilities.

“We are nicely afoot with our Gemini time and there’s great speed across the business,” Pichar said.
