MISHAWAKA, Ind. (WNDU) – The advancement of artificial intelligence stands as a significant milestone for society, eliciting varied perspectives on its implications—whether positive or negative.
At Bethel University, both students and faculty had the opportunity to delve deeper into this transformative technology through a session led by Kurt Heckman, a former official at the U.S. Department of Energy.
Having served during the Trump administration, Heckman now presides over vCalc, an online platform offering a plethora of over 16,000 free calculators catering to diverse fields such as mathematics, science, and business.
Expressing optimism about the potential of AI, Heckman emphasized its capacity to empower individuals across different domains.
Reflecting on the evolution of technology, Heckman remarked, “It’s gonna empower everyone. So, if you could imagine the world before computers or at the very beginning of computers, you can imagine where we are with AI right now. So, we have so much more growth, more capability coming online. AI (is going to) solve more and more problems. 15 years from now, we’ll wonder how we lived without it.”
This enlightening session, held on Wednesday, was made possible through the support of Bethel’s computer science program.
