Adobe introduces a cutting-edge generative AI feature to its Acrobat PDF management software, aiming to revolutionize the digital document experience by enhancing accessibility and comprehension of lengthy documents. Termed as the “AI Assistant in Acrobat,” this innovative tool functions as a “conversational engine,” capable of summarizing files, addressing queries, and suggesting additional content based on the context, enabling users to interact seamlessly with documents to extract pertinent information. The beta version is now accessible to paid Acrobat users.

The primary objective is to streamline the process of navigating through extensive text documents, facilitating tasks like swiftly locating information for research endeavors or condensing lengthy reports into concise highlights suitable for emails, meetings, and presentations. Compatible with all document formats supported by the application, including Word and PowerPoint, the chatbot adheres to Adobe’s stringent data security measures, ensuring that customer data within documents remains confidential and is not utilized for AI Assistant training purposes.

Upon launch, the AI Assistant can analyze document content and propose relevant questions for exploration, besides providing answers to queries. Moreover, it generates citations to authenticate the information sources and creates clickable links for direct access to specific details within lengthy documents. Users can leverage the chatbot to consolidate and format data into easily digestible formats for various purposes such as emails, reports, and presentations.

This new AI Assistant feature is accessible to Acrobat customers on Standard (\(12.99 per month), Pro (\)19.99 per month), and Teams subscription plans, encompassing both desktop and web platforms. While in beta phase, this functionality is offered to customers at no extra charge. However, Abhigyan Modi, senior vice president of Adobe Document Cloud, mentioned to The Verge that Reader and Acrobat users will gain access to the complete suite of AI Assistant capabilities through a new add-on subscription plan post-beta phase.

Although the duration of the beta phase for AI Assistant remains undisclosed, Adobe has outlined future enhancements in its pipeline. These enhancements encompass integrations with the Firefly generative AI model, the capability to extract data from multiple documents and sources simultaneously, and features for generating initial drafts and refining content.
