Nearly half of present job seekers are utilizing artificial intelligence (AI) tools to optimize their CVs, as indicated by a recent comprehensive survey carried out by Canva, a versatile digital platform, and Sago, a quantitative research agency. The study, featured on Yahoo News, involved 5,000 hiring managers and an equal number of job applicants across various countries such as the United States, United Kingdom, India, Germany, Spain, France, Mexico, and Brazil. The results reveal that 45% of job applicants have refined, updated, or constructed their resumes with the aid of advanced AI technology. However, the most surprising revelation lies in the endorsement of AI utilization for crafting career-related documents by hiring managers. Notably, in 2023 alone, five million individuals utilized Canva’s AI-driven Magic Write tool, while Grammarly’s AI Resume Skills Generator was employed by 30 million users. This marks just the initial phase of AI integration in this domain.

Is AI-Generated Content Preferred by HR Professionals?

An overwhelming 90% of hiring experts concur that incorporating AI in application materials is entirely acceptable. Moreover, nearly half (44%) of the respondents believe that leveraging AI for generating any content related to the interview process is permissible. Furthermore, a significant majority of hiring managers (67%) express confidence in their ability to identify resumes modified by AI.

Nevertheless, this last statistic mirrors the percentage of individuals who perceive themselves as competent individuals. It’s essential to discern the disparity between personal driving perceptions and the reality of navigating through traffic. Perhaps, we are too hasty in identifying AI interventions, don’t you think?

Nonetheless, the integration of visual elements represents a burgeoning trend in resume crafting for 2024. Close to 60% of hiring managers exhibit a preference for visually captivating CVs (curriculum vitae). In fact, 71% of the respondents anticipate that within the next five years, text-only resumes will become obsolete.

The Benefits of Infusing AI into Resumes

This study should instill confidence in candidates that leveraging AI serves as a valuable starting point, as emphasized by Amy Schultz, the global head of skill integration at Canva. Schultz remarked, “We understand that job hunting can be daunting and challenging, but if there’s a tool that can alleviate some of that stress, individuals should embrace it.”

According to reports from CNBC, recruiters typically spend a mere 7.4 seconds scanning a resume, a timeframe that former Disney executive Simon Taylor considers generous, estimating it to be closer to three to five seconds. Taylor, the author of the upcoming leadership book “Build Smart,” stresses the critical importance of utilizing cutting-edge tools to thrive in the current job market. Consequently, job seekers are strongly encouraged to incorporate AI technologies into their resume-building strategies to stay ahead in the evolving landscape.
