Adolf Hitler delivered a speech at the Reichstag in 1939, which has resurfaced recently through AI-altered video clips. In this speech, Hitler mentioned the upcoming war leading to the “extermination of the Jewish race in Europe.” It is crucial to highlight that the translation of this statement from German to English was done in the movie clips. These clips have gained significant traction, amassing over 15 million views, showcasing the manipulation of dialogue through AI technology.
The dissemination of these videos originated on Thursday from Dom Lucre, a well-known far-right personality, on a platform identified as X. Dom Lucre has a track record of sharing contentious content, including materials associated with child abuse.
In the comments accompanying the videos on platform X, Lucre justified his actions by claiming he was simply “sharing news as usual” and labeled the videos as “highly antisemitic.” Nevertheless, the response to these clips has been varied among the audience.
A user with a verified X account expressed skepticism, stating, “I’m beginning to question if we truly lost World War II.” Another follower remarked, “It seems these individuals placed their nation above humanity.” The 2017 neo-Nazi film “Europa: The Last Battle” also gained significant attention in this discourse.
Additionally, a conspiracy theorist named Owen Benjamin propagated misleading claims about the AI-modified Hitler videos, suggesting that Hitler opposed engaging in war and condemned other nations for not assisting the Jews. Benjamin’s message reached an audience of over 3.5 million individuals.
Despite WIRED’s efforts to solicit a response, platform X remained unresponsive.
The origin of the video footage appears to be a film uploaded on YouTube two months ago by a group named Time Unveiled, which has also released videos featuring AI-altered versions of Osama bin Laden, Joseph Stalin, and Hideki Tojo.
The creators of the Hitler video disclosed their use of technology from the voice-cloning company ElevenLabs to generate the audio. ElevenLabs faced controversy earlier this year when its systems were employed to fabricate an AI-generated phone call impersonating President Joe Biden. Both YouTube and ElevenLabs opted not to comment on the issue.
One of Lucre’s videos was also shared on his Instagram account, albeit receiving less attention compared to his X posts. Despite continued activity on Lucre’s account, a specific image was removed over the weekend.
Dominick McGee, under the alias Dom Lucre, has attracted attention in certain circles for his distorted content and commentary on the GOP. His content is frequently endorsed by notable figures, including former President Donald Trump.
In a noteworthy incident, Elon Musk intervened to restore Lucre’s account in July 2012, despite prior violations related to the posting of images depicting child exploitation, which contradicted platform policies.
